Today first grade will have the opportunity to explore the Investigations Shapes software program. The Shapes software helps children develop their ability to visualize shapes and motions, and the affects of those motions, and to begin to think about the attributes of shapes. Today we will use the Free Explore feature in which the students learn how to select and manipulate shapes and patterns including adding, moving, flipping, turning, changing color, and erasing shapes.
Today first graders will continue to work with Math Shapes software. They will explore shapes in an activity called Quick Images where students look briefly at an image made up of shapes before the image goes away. They then work to build a copy of the image from memory using those same shapes in the work space on the left hand side.
First grade students are learning about healthy foods and how to make healthy choices. Today they will use a Pixie computer activity to select healthy foods to create a healthy plate picture.
In anticipation of the first grade class field trip to a Pumpkin Patch and Halloween, today in computer class students will carve pumpkins with two online pumpkin carving activities that let them practice their computer skills while making some great carved pumpkins!
Today students will finalize their PIXIE creations that represent what they have learned about a subject they are curious about.
During a recent classroom activity each first grade student identified something that they are curious about. Today in computer lab they will create a picture using Pixie software related to what they are curious about. Along with learning how to use the creative features of Pixie, they will learn how to create a text block and type their name and other information onto their picture.
