On the heels of the second grade rendition of the "Two Pigs", we will continue studying vocabulary related to animals by reading and illustrating "Los Tres Cerditos." Masha and the Bear, originally conceived in Russian, then English and here in Spanish. It's a delightful cartoon that students can enjoy at home to increase their input opportunities. Enjoy! First graders know their numbers pretty well by now, but they know them mostly to hear them or to recite them in order. With the color by number activity we can gradually increase our facility of numbers without dependencies. We practice the colors independently also, then both in combination. Then with changing cards.
Sure, it's a game, but it teaches attentional focus (when reacting to only one of many elements on a page).then how to react in a dissociative, reactionary state when responding to a multitude of images in a randomized context. We do activities like this often and with varying thematic combinations. For example we eventually get to 4 x 3 grids with toys and foods that students recite from sight (thought). Below is the workbook that we use in 1st grade Spanish. We do not do every page in this book, but it is useful in assuring we cover the fundamentals. There are many other study materials that we create ourselves that are more specific to the video stories and books that we enjoy.
