Today students will review their introductory keyboarding skills with an interactive learning tool called Keyseeker. This tool helps the students recognize letters on a keyboard and prompts them to use the correct hand to strike the key. The keyboard is split into purple for left and green for right hand. The students use color bands on their wrists to help remember which hand to use.
Second grade students will have another chance to use use the coding game Lightbot that was introduced last week during the Hour of Code. They will try out Lightbot on the computers in the computer lab instead of using touch screens on the iPads this time.
Today second grade students will participate in the Hour of Code to celebrate Computer Science Education Week. They will use iPads in the classroom while being introduced to coding using the apps Kodable and Lightbot.
Today the students will use their computer time to do interactive activities on the Jan Brett website. This will enhance the study of Jan Brett that they are currently doing in their classroom.
Students completed their Luray Caverns project today by making an audio recording of a paragraph they wrote in their classroom about their Luray Caverns field trip. They recorded this audio clip onto their Pixie picture that they drew previously.
Today students will use Investigations in Math Shapes software to reinforce math skills they have been learning in math class. The Puzzles activity requires students to select a variety of shapes and manipulate them to correctly fill in a puzzle form.
Today each group of students from second grade will go to the computer lab to use Pixie to try to recreate a monster that they have never seen by using an adjective-filled description written by one of their classmates. This will complete the Monster Adjective Project! Watch for the projects to be posted in the Gallery to see the fun results of this activity.
The second grade class recently took a field trip to Luray Caverns. Today the students will be using Pixie software to create a drawing of their trip to Luray Caverns and will practice using the draw tool, paint fill tool, and smear feature to create their drawings. In class they are writing about what they discovered during their field trip, and later the students will record a narration for their picture. Today in honor of the Great Grymes Pumpkin Carving Contest being held this week, we are going to carve pumpkins using an online web application during computer class. The pumpkins should be created to match one of the contest categories: Scariest, Most Life-like, Funniest or Sweetest. Here are two different web apps to choose from. Click on the image you want to use.
Today the students will refer to their monster on their computer screen to help them fill in a writing prompt that allows them to write down descriptions with adjectives for the various parts of their monsters. This will be the basis for the written descriptions in paragraph form that they will write when they return to their classroom.
