Half the class has finished their final drafts of their Powerpoint books. Everyone else should start wrapping it up. Everyone should:
Digital PhotographyWe are starting a unit on Digital Photography.
Later we'll use FotoFlexer. It is an easier tool to use and removing the background is done similarly to the newer versions of Photoshop Elements. Unfortunately it isn't very stable and you may lose your work a few times before successfully removing the background.
The students are doing an awesome job on their Spanish Powerpoint books. I'm hoping most will be finished by the end of this week's class. Here is what we covered in today's class:
1. Staying anonymous on the Internet - we should only use first names on our website. 2. The difference between having audio play "automatically" and "when clicked" in Powerpoint 3. How to hide the speaker icon and/or differentiate between the narration and the sound effect. 4. Why you need to convert Powerpoints to Flash before you can post it on the website. 5. How to convert their Powerpoints to Flash using iSpring. 6. How to add a Flash file to the 5th grade Weebly website. The students made the suggested edits for their Spanish Powerpoint books. When they finished, they worked on their website articles. Here are somethings to consider:
You should be finishing up your Spanish Powerpoint projects by recording the narrative. I'll also show you a few fun ways to spruce it up using animation (clip art, slide transitions, and animated objects). Write a Website ArticleWhen you get done with your Spanish Powerpoint project, you can work on a website article of your choice. You can work by yourself or team up with one other person. You can write an article and add photos or do a video interview. Here are some potential topics:
Thank Mrs. GentryI've started a wallwisher. Please add a note thanking Mrs. Gentry for being your substitute teacher. Just click on "post a sticky" to get to the wall to post a sticky. Then double click to start your note. I'm going to pass out edits on the Field Trip articles made by Ms. Gentry. Please make the edits. When you're done we're going to start a Spanish Project using Microsoft Powerpoint.
We started the class by reviewing some basic concepts to ensure all students understand why they do, what they do on the computer. Then we reviewed the three different ways to add an image in Weebly and how to add a YouTube video. Web Browser Tabs and WindowsIf you open a new window (rather than a tab), you can find it in the "task bar" at the bottom of the window (Windows XP). Mouse - Right ClickingWhen you "right click" on an something with your mouse, it displays a list of things you can do with the item. This changes based on what you are right clicking on. Weebly - Inserting an ImageThere are three ways to upload an image using Weebly:
Weebly - Adding a YouTube VideoTo add a YouTube video, you need to click inside the blue box, but outside of the existing video (in the white space). The YouTube video box appears. Copy and paste the YouTube Video URL in the box. Once again, click inside the blue box, but outside the existing video (in the white space) and the video will load. NOTE: To get the YouTube URL, you can click on the "share" box below the video you're interested in.
Today you will be starting work on the 5th Grade Class website. You'll be taking the write-ups you did in class on your field trip to Rounton Farm and turning them into articles on the website. You can access the field trip photos on the server under: website => photos => Rounton Farm Field Trip Sept11 I have also posted them on the school server. When you are done, you can work on your personal websites.
This year the fifth grade will be creating a class website. Today we will start by creating a personal websites. These websites are password protected. That means it can be accessed over the Internet by anyone who has the password. Click here to learn more about today's lesson.
