The students practiced their mouse skills at a website called "Mousing Around"
The students now know how to get in the Internet by starting Internet Explorer. We used a web application called Poisson Rouge where they practiced their numbers.
I will be going to the Kindergarten classroom on Thursdays before lunch. Computers will be one of the "centers" and I will work with students in small groups. We decided to do it this way because Kindergartener's need a lot of individual attention when they first learn to use a computer. We found last year that "large group" instruction was not ideal. My goal is to introduce computer skills to the students incrementally while doing activities that tie into their classroom learning.
In our first class we worked in groups of three. We started by introducing ourselves. Then we learned/reviewed some vocabulary:
I showed them how to hold a mouse properly. Demonstrated how to start Internet Explorer and how to start the "Flower Garden" application. They practiced "left clicking" on the screen to add flowers and then "dragging" the mouse (holding down the left mouse button) to create continuous flowers. If necessary, I showed them how to make their Internet Explorer window "full screen". At the end of the lesson, they learned how to close the window to their application. AssessmentI observed to see that they were able to:
Special notes: We did not get to everyone. Next class we will start with Joseph and Alasdair. I will also setup 4 stations instead of 3 to ensure we get to everyone.
