This week marks the 110th anniversary of Dr. Seuss' birth. Since 1998, the National Education Association (NEA) has designated March 2nd as Read Across America day. In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, we planned to play educational games and explore the Seussville website during our computer class. Since we had a "snow day" today we were not able to meet for computer class, but students are welcome to visit this site on their own.

The students are continuing their study of Polar Animals. Today we are going to do an activity on Antarctic animals. Some South Pole animals include penguins, seals, whales, etc. Students will go use kerpoof.com to create an Antarctic scene. We will review how to add images to the scene, size them, delete them by dragging them off, rotating them, and adding text. This activity provides "question marks" that, when clicked, tells you some interesting facts about the animal.
The students are learning about Polar Animals so today we are going to do a computer activity about Arctic animals. North Pole animals include polar bears, reindeer, arctic foxes, seals, snowy owls, and walruses. Students will go use kerpoof.com to create an Arctic scene. We reviewed how to add images to the scene, size them, delete them by dragging them off, rotating them, and adding text. They really enjoy the fun features like making the sun set by dragging it below the horizon and seeing the images get smaller as you drag them further away. This activity also has "question marks." When you click on one, it will give interesting facts about the animal.
Today students will learn about Polar Animals in computer class by watching videos. Students will practice how to make their videos "full screen", how to exit "full screen" mode, and how to delete ads while viewing a video. They will also review how to "play a video", how to "pause a video", and how to change the volume.
The kindergarten class is learning about Medieval Times as they prepare to have their own Medieval Feast in their classroom. Today in computer class they will use the computers to watch educational videos that give information about the Middle Ages and show children attending a Medieval Festival in France and participating in a Medieval Feast at their school.
Today the students will use the computer to do some fun interactive activities that correspond with their classroom Gingerbread Man activities. These online activities will help them to practice counting and other math skills, and will reinforce their mouse skills.
