Technology Department Philosophy
Students in the lower school should be introduced to the idea that technology can help them create, access, view, and interpret information and ideas. They should receive regular practice with the skills necessary to benefit from technological resources that are becoming more readily accessible and more integral to their daily lives within and outside of school. Through the use of programs, applications, software, hardware and Internet resources, students need to learn how to navigate, evaluate and utilize the wealth of material and knowledge available to them through technology.
Having mastered basic computer skills and software applications by fifth grade, we expect our upper school students to use technology as a tool to make tasks easier and to communicate their thoughts more effectively. Teachers are integrating more technology into their classes both as a teaching tool and as a requirement for student work. Students will become proficient at using Microsoft Office, searching, evaluating and responsibly using websites for use in research, and planning multimedia presentations. Our graduating students need to be comfortable learning any new technology tool. The only thing we can be certain of in the future is the fact that things will constantly be changing. They need to be able to sit down at a Mac as comfortably as a Microsoft system. Our goal is to give all our students the foundation they need to thrive in a technologically driven society and the opportunity to take it to the next level if they choose.
