Many of the students have taken out their backgrounds and saved their image with a transparent background as a PNG file. They have also downloaded a background image and saved it in their Personal Folder. They have also put them together to make their green screen image. 5th Grade Finished ProductsThe students learned about chroma keying, the process of editing out the background of a photo or video which uses a single color background and then superimposing it together with another. Usually the background color is either blue or green because it is the most different from the hue of skin color. Because many people use a green screen as a backdrop, the process is sometimes referred to as "Green Screening". The students also learned some tips on taking a good Green Screen photo to ensure cleaner editing (good lighting, eliminating shadows and wrinkles in the fabric, and not wearing green). Then the students picked out their background images and tried to imagine how they would appear in it. Then we setup a green screen and took some photos of the students posing. For the rest of this year, you will be learning how to create your own website. You'll also do other projects in computer class and post them to your website. So let's get started! How the Internet Works Video Let's start by watching a video about what happens when you try and access a website. In this video, you can replace "someone in England" with someone at "Grymes Memorial School". So imagine you're accessing the World Science Festival website. It's not perfect, but you'll get the idea.
Getting Started Video Tutorials
Here's a video tutorial on how to Publish and Log Off. NOTE: According to Weebly support, if you do not click on the hyperlink to your website after publishing, additional changes to your website may automatically get published as you make them (even before you "publish" again). This week is Computer Science Education week. In celebration of it, all of Grymes will be participating in the Hour of Code. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. By nurturing computer science, we are encouraging students to think logically, solve problems, and demonstrate creativity. Today we will brush up on our keyboarding skills. We'll start off with an "Introduction to Keyboarding" and then I'll show you how to use Typing Agent. Click on the image below to get to Typing Agent:
