The students learned the terms Hardware, Software, Computer and Applications through this activity. Students paired up where one student was the computer and the other the application. They sat back-to-back so they couldn't see each other. The computer had a blank piece of paper and pencil. The application was provided a drawing.
The application told the computer what to draw by using words like "shapes" and "locations" (see list on the right). Below are some examples from the activity. Some were pretty close, like the robot - but others were way off! It's always fun to see the results. The students learned that applications have to be very exact about their instructions for the computer to do what is expected. You can see the improvement over time in communications between the commands the application was giving to the computer. |
