The class will be making a Blabberize about different occupations found during Medieval times. They have already made their recordings in class. In computer class students will find an image for the project, then they will use Blabberize to create their Blab. Here is an example of what it might look like (I used Jackson's recording):

The students wrote about what ARFF means to them. ARFF stands for - Achievement, Respect, Fun, and Freedom. Then I showed them how to do the following using Microsoft Word:
The fifth graders were finishing up a variety of projects. The students that were finished learned how to use Animoto. It's a great tool to quickly create a professional photo/video story.
Here is a second draft of the Poetry Magazine. We are still waiting on a couple of poems. Today we will start a unit on using Microsoft Office Templates. This will be very useful as the students get older. They will be able to produce professional reports, brochures, flyers, etc. We'll start by looking at the templates on the Microsoft Office website. With this project they will be selecting a Microsoft Word Template for Brochures/flyer. They will create a brochure/flyer to persuade people on what type of region is better to live in (e.g. coastal, mountain, valley, etc.).
We are going to use an iPad app called WordFoto to express who we are. Students will start by filling out a brainstorming worksheet that helps them think of words that describe themselves. They will then use the iPad to take a photo of themselves and enter 10 words that best embodies who they are. Here are some examples of WordFotos: We will continue to work on our poetry magazine. Here is an "early" draft copy for your review. Take a look at it and see what changes you'd like to make. Give constructive feedback to others (e.g. spelling, design, etc.) How should we give credit to the author of each poem? Should everyone design a sheet to go inbetween with the name of the author? Should we skip the divider sheet and just put names on each individual poem? Other suggestions? Take a look at Example Poems to see how they should be formatted. And use the following Check Off List to do a final review of your work. This project will be judged on both the quality of the poem and its presentation. How well you communicate your ideas is an important skill to learn. If you're done with your poems, please design a magazine cover. We'll have Mr. Pitera select the final design from those that are submitted. You can use Big Huge Labs to design the magazine cover. I can show you how.
The following people need to finish their travelogues:
Spanish Powerpoint Book:
Everyone else should be working on their Poetry Book. When you are done with your travelogue, please start working on the class Poetry Magazine. Here's a link with examples of what the final project will look like. You should create your pages using Microsoft Powerpoint. You can design it any way you'd like, just make sure the "slide orientation" is "portrait". Consider taking your own photos and editing them in pixlr.com rather than finding photos on the Internet. If you do use photos on the Internet, make sure you cite your sources and provide the appropriate attributions. If you finish your part of the poetry magazine, you can use Big Huge Labs Magazine Cover creator to design a magazine cover. We'll select one magazine cover to use for the publication. Here's an example of one:
Everyone should be working on their Travelogue.
If you finish, you can either work on a 5th grade website article or you can start thinking about our next project - where the class is going to take over the 5th grade website. Here's a link with some preliminary information. |
