Today students will use the link below to the Summer Fun Math page to find a variety of fun interactive math activities available to use throughout the summer to reinforce what they have learned this year. These activities include addition, subtraction, money, time, and skip counting.
Today students will view the ABC book that they created in computer class to share with the Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes. The Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes will be viewing the ABC Book this week, as well!
The first grade class will begin a special project today. They will create an ABC book for the JK and Kindergarten classes. Using PIXIE to create a separate page for each letter of the alphabet, they will practice creating text blocks and typing upper and lower case letters and select a word to represent each letter of the alphabet. They will then use features of PIXIE, such as the stamp tool and stickers (like clip art), to create illustrations for each word. When the pages are completed, they will make audio recordings with original sentences to accompany each page.
Today students will use the Investigations in Math Shapes software during computer class to duplicate the quilt square designs that they created in their math class.
Earth Day celebrates its 47th year on Saturday, April 22. In anticipation of Earth Day, first graders will work with their partner class in a school-wide clean-up day activity on this Friday. Today the first grade class will use computers to explore some educational and fun activities focusing on Earth Day and recycling.
The first grade class is continuing their study of the Rainforest Biome and have selected an animal to research. During computer class today students will begin their research booklets about the animal they have chosen for their rain forest research project. They will take notes about their animals, listen to the sounds their animals make, draw pictures of their animal's habitats and food, and watch videos of their animals.
The First Grade class is beginning a new unit about the Rainforest. Today in computer class students will be exploring information about various Rainforest animals by using a webpage created for them. Next week students will select an animal from the Rainforest as the subject of a research project.
As a follow up to the First Grade classroom author study of Jan Brett during Grymes Book Week, students will explore activities and videos from the Jan Brett website, including "how to draw" videos by Jan Brett.
This week marks the 113th anniversary of Dr. Seuss' birth. Since 1998, the National Education Association (NEA) has designated March 2 as Read Across America day. In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday this week and as part of our Grymes Book Week celebration, students will play educational games and learn more about Dr. Seuss' many books as they explore the websites below.
Today the first grade students will continue to explore maps, map skills, and map symbols using interactive National Geographic map games for children. Students are learning about Ancient Egypt in first grade, and the Explore a Pyramid will give students an opportunity to explore the inside of a pyramid while guiding a robot.
