Use of Information
Step 4 is to find the information you need by reading, hearing, or viewing each source. This step includes taking notes and keeping track of your sources.

Making Note Cards
Your teacher may have given you a worksheet with which to take notes. If he/she didn't then using note cards is one way to take notes. Your notes should be paraphrased in your own words (without changing the original meaning), unless of course it's a direct quote (then you need to use quotation marks). NOTE: Different teachers may want you to format your note cards differently. You should follow your teacher's instructions.

Use Bookmarking (Diigo) Tools for Research
You can use bookmarking tools to help take notes and track online source materials. This video uses Diigo, but the idea applies to other bookmarking tools as well.

Citing Sources
Citing sources is important because it lets others know when ideas/words/pictures you use are someone else's. It prevents you from committing plagiarism. Click here for tips from CRLS on Citing Sources.

Making Source Cards
Don't forget to make your Source Cards to keep track of the sources you use. You will need this information when you cite your sources for your project. Click here for tips from CRLS on Making Source Cards.
