Today students will use an interactive learning tool called Keyseeker to continue to build their introductory keyboarding skills. Keyseeker helps the students recognize letters on a keyboard and prompts them to use the correct hand to strike the key. The keyboard is split into purple for left and green for right hand. The students use bands on their wrists to help remember which hand to use.

Today students are going to learn the terms Hardware, Software, Computer and Applications through an activity. Students will pair up. One student will be the computer and the other the application. The computer will have a blank piece of paper and pencil. The application will have a drawing that the computer can't see. They will sit back-to-back and the application will tell the computer what to draw by using words describing "shapes" and "locations". The results are always entertaining. The students learn that applications have to be very exact about their instructions for the computer to do what is expected.
Today students will duplicate their quilt square designs that they created in math class on the computer by using the Investigations in Math Shapes software. Look for their beautiful quilt designs in the Gallery.
Today students are working on an Investigations in Math Shapes software activity where they learn how to use shapes to completely fill in a shape. They have to use the mouse and different ways to manipulate the shapes to fill in the puzzle form correctly.
Students will continue to work with Investigations Shapes. Today they will explore "Quick Images" where they will have to recreate an existing image. They will only get a quick view of the image before it goes away.
First grade will investigate shapes and patterns using the computer software Investigations Shapes, which corresponds with their math curriculum. Today they will become familiar with the Free Explore part of the program as they select and learn to manipulate shapes and patterns to create their own pictures.
The first graders will practice their keyboarding skills today. They will use this Key Seeker interactive game to become more familiar with the location of all the letter keys while reinforcing the use of both left and right hands on the keyboard. They will even wear colored wrist bands to remind them which is their left hand and which is their right hand as they locate the letters!
First grade students are learning about healthy foods and how to make healthy choices. Today they will use a Pixie computer activity to select healthy foods to create a healthy plate picture. Be sure to check the gallery to see all the healthy plates they created!

Please check out the gallery to see their pictures and read facts that they learned while doing this computer activity.
