Today the students are going to use a web app called Haiku Deck to make presentations of their vocabulary words. They will add their vocabulary word and a sentence using the word. Then they will select an image. Haiku Deck makes it easy to create a good looking presentation. The app searches 35 million high quality Creative Commons images and even pulls in the attribution! NOTE: There is also an iPad version and the ability to export the presentations to Microsoft PowerPoint. |

This is a fun little project to teach kids about how to work with objects at different layers in Microsoft PowerPoint. Students will learn the terms objects and layers. They will learn how to bring an object forward and to the front, as well as move an object backwards or to the back. Students will recreate the image in the upper left hand corner on the first two activities and create a face for the third. They will save it in their personal folders under the name "layers" and their name. NOTE: The concept of layers and bringing objects forwards and sending them backwards is transferable to many other applications.
I will be joining the 3rd class during Language Arts today. I'll be working with small groups of students in a "computer center". We're going to practice using our vocabulary words for the week by creating fake text messages. Click on the example to access the iFakeText app.
Filing System Review
Fun with FontsStudents should go to their "personal" folder and open the file "Fun with Fonts". In this activity, we will learn how to change the way text looks. You will learn how to select text, change fonts, font size, font Color, how to make text bold, italics, and underline, and what a toggle is. When you are done, use "save as" and save your work with a different file name.
