The fourth grade is starting the keyboarding unit. Today we'll do an introduction to keyboarding and how to use Typing Agent. Typing Agent is a web based typing tutor that we are evaluating. Because it is web based, students can practice keyboarding from school, home, or any device that's connected to the Internet. Click on the image to the right to access Typing Agent: |

This is a fun little project to teach kids about how to work with objects at different layers in Microsoft PowerPoint. They learned about the terms objects and layers. They learned how to bring an object forward and to the front, as well as move an object backwards or to the back. Students were asked to recreate the image in the upper left hand corner on the first two activities and create a face for the third. Then they were asked to save it in their personal folders under the name "layers" and their name. NOTE: The concept of layers and bringing objects forwards and sending them backwards is transferable to many other applications.
The last couple of weeks we've been working on an Appalachian Trail project. Each student selected a state along the Appalachian Trail. In the classroom, they did research (click here for a link to the research site) and wrote a news report about visiting the parks in their state. We videotaped their news reports in front of a "green screen". I added a background scene and created a ThingLink for the website with all the videos. I also created an Aurasma (augmented reality) for each student which you can see outside the 4th grade classroom. Please click below to view:
