The Kindergarten class will begin their community service project this week. We will be collecting needed items for the Orange County SPCA. Our collection will run from April 15th until May 2nd. Students will be making fliers during computer class to share information around the school. The class will make a trip out to the shelter the first part of May to visit the animals and give their donations. Items can be sent in any time over the next few weeks and I will store them safely in the classroom. We will NOT be collecting dry food items as the shelter has a contract with Science Diet to maintain a consistent diet for the animals. The shelter has asked for the following items:
To go along with learning about the seasons and celebrate Spring, the Kindergarteners are going to do some online activities associated with Spring.
The students continue to learn about the seasons. They started school at the end of summer which quickly moved into autumn. Today we are experiencing snow at the end of winter and in a couple of days it will be Spring. We'll do a Pixie activity called Trees through the Seasons where they will demonstrate their knowledge of the seasons by coloring and adding details to a landscape scene.
In celebration of Dental Health month, the kids are going to learn how to keep their teeth healthy*. Click on the image below for Healthy Teeth activities: * Ooops, Dental Health month was February - we missed it by a few days. It's still a good excuse to learn how to keep our teeth healthy!
The students are learning about Polar Animals. Today we are going to do an activity on Arctic animals. Some North Pole animals include polar bears, reindeer, arctic foxes, seals, snowy owls, walruses, etc. Students will go use kerpoof.com to create an Arctic scene. We reviewed how to add images to the scene, size them, delete them by dragging them off, rotating them, and adding text. They really like the fun features like making the sun set by dragging it below the horizon and seeing the images get smaller as you drag them further away. This activity also had "question marks". When you click on them, it tells you some interesting facts about the animal.
The kindergarten class is learning about Medieval Times. In computer class they will be watching their choice of videos - ranging from Castle Life, Feudalism, Knights, Clothing, and more...
Today the students will explore the free time apps. I will work with them on the concept of web browser "tabs". Each time they click on an activity, it creates a new tab. We'll switch from one tab to another and learn to close them when we're done.
What an excellent time of year to study "wants and needs". Today the students will be using Pixie to sort objects into the two different categories.
