Today the Kindergarten students will continue to develop mouse skills and knowledge of hyperlinks while exploring a great interactive website called Poisson Rouge. The site includes fun activities that highlight a variety of interactive areas of exploration, including math skills, art, music, and multiple languages.
We try to watch videos with full Spanish dialog and Pocoyo is no exception. Pocoyo is entertaining and accessible because the dialog is neither difficult nor fast.
Today we read "Abuela" and learned many useful Spanish words and phrases. Abuela, cuidado, nubes, limonada, me gusta, mira, casa, tio, tia, aventura, pajaro. In addition we reviewed and revisited the video from week one.
We had our orientation over the first week or two. We explained the rules and behavioral expectations of the laboratory and students are also practicing keyboard skills (typing their name, typing passwords, etc), and mouse skills (point and click) in the lab.
This week we learned how to respond, "aquí", when our name is called. I also introduced the students to the Basho youtube channel, where students can go to learn more Spanish. This week we watched, sang, and learned greetings of the day: Through the course of our lessons, students are exposed to ancillary vocabulary in a contextual manner. For example, they hear "A ti te toca" when it is their turn to share something with the class. They hear "gracias/de nada", "hola/adios" and many other Spanish words and phrases. The emphasis is on teaching them to respond in contextual ways, like a reflex, rather than specifically teaching translation skills. We also taught, learned, and sang the goodbye song: "Adios Amigos!" |
